Crazy Town Sports Tournament Rules

SCORING

  • Rally Scoring to 21, Win by 2, 25 Cap

  • Team switch sides at 11 points

 

SERVING

  • Rock/Paper/Scissors or Roll The Ball for choice of serve or side.

  • Any serve that crosses the net and touches an opposing player or lands within the boundary lines is a legal serve.

  • If a serve hits the net and crosses the plane, it is a live ball and must be played.

  • Jump serves are allowed.

  • Serving team retains serve until opposing team scores a point

  • Players must rotate serve, but are not required to rotate positions on the court.

  • Players on the receiving team cannot block or attack a serve.

PLAYING THE BALL

  • Players must rotate serve, but are not required to rotate positions on the court.

  • Any player may attack the net.

  • Each team is allowed a maximum of 3 successive contacts of the ball in order to return the ball to the opponent’s area.

  • Open hand tips are illegal.

  • Hand Setting is allowed and "doubles" will not be called unless egregious

  • Returning a serve with a set is illegal and must be "passed" with a bump (hands together below the wrist) or with your hands together (above the waist).

  • No setting the ball over the net in any instance. This will occur a point for the opposing team.

  • Players are not permitted to scoop, hold or lift the ball. The ball must be clearly hit.

  • There is no centerline. You may cross under the net providing that you do not contact a player from the other side or hinder their play of the ball.

  • The ball must cross the plane of the net before contact may be made by the opposing team. The only exception is on the 3rd hit by the offense and the contact is made to block the shot.

  • Contact with the net is a violation. This includes contact made by hats, hair, or clothing.

  • Crossing or playing over any of the ball guards is a dead ball.

  • Crossing into the other courts is a dead ball.

  • A stray ball onto the court constitutes a replay if it comes in during play

REVERSE COED RULES

  • Net height: Net height is standard women’s net height.

  • Men can only hit from behind the 10 foot line.

  • No Rotation: Players do not need to follow any rotation; teams only need to keep a consistent serving order.

  • No Guy or Girl Rule: Any combination of players may contact the ball.

  • No Jump Serves for Male Players: Due to the lower net height, jump serves by male players are not allowed and are a service fault

BLOCKING

  • Blocking is the action close to the net which intercepts the ball coming from the opponent's side by making contact with the ball before, during or after it crosses the net.

  • A block contact is not counted as a team hit, and a team is entitled to 3 hits to return the ball.

  • The first hit after the block may be executed by any player, including the one who blocked the ball.

OFFICIALS

  • All games will be self-officiated, or officiated by a team not currently in a tournament game.

HARASSMENT & AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR

  • There is a “Zero Tolerance Policy” for aggressive or unsporting behavior for anyone playing or in attendance.

  • Taunting, trash talking, or abusive language will not be tolerated.

  • Officials and volleyball league staff have discretion to eject players, managers, or fans depending on the severity of the situation.

  • Abusive behavior towards any referee will not be tolerated.

  • Any rules not covered, or protests will be handled by the Tournament Coordinator.

  • All decisions of the Tournament Coordinator are final and not up for debate.

  • The Tournament Director has  authority to make adjustments to match schedules, match duration, and other aspects of the tournament as may become necessary during the course of the tournament.
